In 2025, tourism in Harghita County showed a stable and solid performance. During the year, a total of 184,120 tourists arrived in the county, spending more than 400,000 overnight stays in local accommodation establishments. The peak of the tourism season was clearly during the summer months: in August, 20,680 arrivals and 52,600 overnight stays were recorded, making it the strongest month of the year.
The average occupancy rate of accommodation units was 17.62%, with the highest value also recorded in August, when occupancy reached 24.7%. Tourist traffic began to increase significantly from May, peaked during the summer months, and then gradually declined in autumn.
Among visitors, the county’s best-known resorts and excursion destinations remain the most popular. According to statistics, Băile Tușnad/Tusnádfürdő leads the list of the most visited destinations with 9,369 tourists, followed by Miercurea Ciuc/Csíkszereda with 6,767 visitors, and Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely with 4,814 tourists. The ranking is followed by Toplița/Maroshévíz (2,952), Vlăhița/Szentegyháza (1,946), Praid/Parajd (1,872), Zetea/Zetelaka (1,762), Gheorgheni/Gyergyószentmiklós (1,560), Borsec/Borszék (1,509) and Ciumani/Gyergyócsomafalva (1,147).
According to these statistics, tourism in Harghita County attracts visitors especially during the summer season, while winter and autumn months also show a stable flow of guests, reinforcing the region’s year-round tourism potential. Popular resorts, natural attractions, and cultural events together contribute to keeping the county an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.
